bod

App · AI · In active build

A wellness app built with AI throughout. Designed end-to-end. Currently shipping.

bod is a custom React app with Claude wired into its core. Less noise. More clarity. Built by Shelter 84.

The problem

Wellness apps generally fail one of two ways. Either they're feature-stuffed dashboards that overwhelm new users, or they're stripped-down trackers that don't actually help anyone change behavior.

The thesis behind bod: most users don't fail because they lack information. They fail because they have too much of it. The right wellness app reduces decision fatigue, not adds to it.

That meant the build had to start with behavior, not features.

What we built

Product design and UX. Full product strategy and onboarding flow. Behavioral architecture grounded in habit-formation research, not gamification gimmicks. Clean visual system with calm typography, restrained color, deliberate spacing. Empty states, error states, and microcopy treated as first-class design surfaces.

App architecture. Single-file React app, 12,000+ lines, designed for speed of iteration. AI throughout — Claude wired into recommendation flows, content generation, and adaptive coaching. Built mobile-first, with desktop as a thoughtful afterthought rather than the other way around.

Brand identity. Brand mark and visual system designed alongside the product, not bolted on. Tagline: Less noise. More clarity. Product and brand share one position.

What's still in build. Account and data layer (currently in design). Subscription and billing (post-MVP). Trainer / coach mode (Phase 2).

Why it works

bod is being built by the same team designing it. There's no agency-to-developer translation layer. When a behavioral insight changes the design, the change ships in days because the person designing it is also the person writing the React.

That speed is the whole point. Most product design ends at Figma. Most engineering starts from a spec. bod sidesteps that entire handoff because it doesn't exist. The team is one team.

The AI layer is the second reason it works. Claude isn't a chatbot bolted onto the side. It's woven into the recommendation flows, the adaptive coaching, the daily prompts. It's a core part of how the product behaves, not a feature on a settings page.

Where it stands

In active build. Currently in private alpha with a small group of testers. Public launch planned later this year.

The product is working software, not a pitch deck. We can show the live build to qualified prospects.

What this case study proves about Shelter 84

We don't just design products. We ship them.

The relevance for client engagements: when a founder hires us to build their app or AI tool, they're hiring a studio that has built and shipped its own. The product instincts come from doing it for ourselves, not just consulting on it for others.

If you're a wellness, health, or AI-app founder reading this — this is what working with us looks like. We bring product, design, engineering, and AI fluency to the same conversation. Most agencies pretend to do this. We actually do.
