About Shelter 84

A creative growth partner, built from 15 years in the rooms where brands actually get sold.

Great design should feel like a place — safe, elevated, a little dangerous.

Shelter 84 is a Los Angeles studio that helps businesses look and operate like the next version of themselves — through branding, web design, AI-powered tools, and the kind of strategic thinking most agencies stop doing once the contract is signed.

The origin.

For 15 years, our founder Josh worked inside entertainment marketing — building campaigns and creative for Sony, Universal, Lionsgate, and the studios that have to convince a hundred million people that this movie is the one to see this weekend. The bar in that world is brutal. A poster has to do in a glance what a 90-minute pitch deck can't.

That training reframes how you see every other business. You start to notice that most companies — even the ones with great products, great teams, and real revenue — are presenting themselves at maybe 30% of what they actually are. The website is dated. The brand is inconsistent. The Google profile is half-filled. The operations are held together with spreadsheets and good intentions. The business is real. The presentation isn't.

Shelter 84 exists to close that gap.

What we actually do.

We're a creative growth partner — which is a different thing than a branding studio, a web shop, or a marketing agency. We build the visual identity, the website, the local SEO, the AI tools, and the systems that let a small team operate like a much bigger one. All under one roof, in service of one outcome: your business looking and running like the version of itself you've been describing on calls but haven't had the help to build.

We work with founders, local businesses, hospitality, real estate operators, and brands in transition — anyone who has the goods but needs the presentation to catch up. From sterile medical products to tamale cats and celebrity-backed brands, we build identities that feel like the product already exists at scale.

How we think.

  • Strategy first, taste second, execution third — but all three. We won't redesign your logo without understanding your unit economics. We won't write your homepage copy without sitting with how you actually talk to customers.
  • Smaller surface area, sharper edge. We'd rather do four things well for you than twelve things adequately. Most engagements are scoped tight, shipped fast, and built to compound.
  • AI is a quiet teammate, not a headline. We use it to do the boring work — drafting, routing, summarizing, scheduling — so the human work gets more space, not less. We don't ship "AI features" for the press release.
  • Clients aren't projects. We stay close after launch. The site is live, the brand is out, the systems are running — and we're still picking up the phone.

Where to start.

If you already know what you need, tell us. If you don't — and most founders don't, because the problem is usually bigger than any one piece — start with a $500 Modernization Plan. One call, one written roadmap, delivered within 72 hours. If you build with us after, the fee is credited. If you don't, the plan is still yours.
